"BEN! ➜"
Niki dashes over and immediately hugs him. She trails out an excited run-on sentence as she holds on tight to her marshmallow man. "I'm so glad you're back home I was worried about you I have so much to tell you but right now I'm just glad to see you again. ➜"

Ben pauses for a moment, then tentatively hugs back. "you're not... mad?"

"I've been through too much on my end to be mad... Honestly I was worried you left me because of my crazy high risk plan to stop Chronos. ➜" She leans in close and whispers "It worked though, thank you. ➜" Niki kisses Ben on the cheek.

Ben hears a voice come from behind him.
"Sup."
Charles is just... sitting on the ramp. Waving. I mean, he looks kinda different, what with the dark blue shirt and all, but still.

Niki notices the SUDDEN NEARBY CHARLES that seemed to be interrupting the moment. "...When did you get here???? ➜"

"Do you really want me to answer that? I mean, I could have been on the whale for quite some time, or I could have just decided to take a quick walk."

Niki rolls her eyes at Charles, then returns her attention to Ben. "I think we both have a lot to talk about. Let's sit down somewhere. ➜"

"i didn't bring charles along. but yeah, place to sit, sure." The crow turned to Charles and spoke up nervously. "Is that a, uh, security risk, or...?" "nah, just charles."

Niki laughs a little bit. Charles, being considered not a security risk. That's a new one. Then again, this is a different Charles than the old one. She uncaptchas a plastic table and... realizes she doesn't have any chairs in her sylladex. "Eh, whatever, who needs to sit. ➜" She shrugs, walks over to the table, and sorta leans on it.
"So, do you want to talk about your adventure first, or do you want to hear about mine first? ➜"

Charles seems to be glancing around, somewhat. Is he nervous about something or something?

She takes a second to prepare, and is soon deep in a long tangent of some sort.
(optional bgm: Luigi's Tiring Story) "Alright then. I'll tell my story. It's a long one though, so try not to fall asleep. ➜
So, about a month ago, there was a breach and Seth's body mysteriously disappeared. I'm sure you remember this, as well as the note that got dropped off afterwards, which pretty much confirmed it was the work of Chronos, the dude our group had to fight in our session after he pulled all that cruel crud with the sprites and stuff. Anyways, his ghost possessed Seth's body, though I have a hunch it had sorta been with him ever since he grew horns in the first place, and only just then had been awakened out of dormancy. So he skipped town into the past and let the note. Something you might not have known though, is that I had already been tracking him before the incident had even begun. Not much else to do around here when everyone else seems to be so distant and preoccupied. I knew I couldn't fight him, because that would obviously just damage Seth's body which he was using, but I had to do something. Our Rogue of Heart had been scared off to parts unknown, or possibly overwritten, so that option was out. ➜ Eventually, I had an idea. If I could guide Seth in his dreams to find Chronos and defeat him somehow, Seth would be able to take control again. Only problem was, skaianet viewports don't work that well in the void, so I had to get access to an alternative. With some clever thinking, I figured 'hey, voidco is a thing, and they have surveillance stuff that works out there' so I contacted the meteor crew to go on a mission to get their viewport software. Eventually they pulled through and sent it over. I was kinda shocked to see what kind of control I could have with the program. I could control any player as if they were the main character in a video game. That gave me an idea. If I could recreate the places and situations Seth would visit during his quest using rpg maker, I could map the resulting control data to the voidco software. Obviously it wouldn't be done directly, I wanted the rpg to have replay value outside of the task it was required for. So I made some macro codes that would activate a certain pattern of suggestions and commands when sent to the right thing. When the player would get to an ending, they would receive a corresponding ending code to send to my email address. From what I've been able to tell from checking my stuff back home, somehow the Cat ending got chosen. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. ➜"
"I gave myself about 2 extra months to work on the game and the connecting code. With siren's help, I was able to pull it off and release the game and set up the email sorter thing before the deadline. Did I mention the deadline is when I knew I'd have to die to make it work? Well, that was a thing. I was, really nervous about it, but I knew I had a way to come back, in the form of that rose you gave me a while back. So I incorporated that into the plan as well. I knew if I carried the rose with me on my person it might either activate too fast to give the ~ATH codes time to execute, or Chronos would find it and do something bad with it, so I hid it in a place he nor his vessel would want to go through. I basically constructed a small dungeon of annoyance and way too much cold. I tried to make sure it would also be easy enough for there to be no casualties, because then the party would try to use the rose on whoever fell there and that would ruin the point of the whole thing. ➜
The rose itself was placed in perfect indoor gardening conditions to keep it healthy, with the lights and sprinklers running on timers for as long as they needed to. The sprinklers got their water from the lake above the cave, so there would be no need to worry about running out of water. The lights, as well as the stereo system and the temperature control were powered by a skaianet power hub hidden in a secret chamber. I wrote instructions on where to find it and had it queued up on tumblr and my printer at home for anyone to find it after the codes were processed. ➜"
Niki takes a moment to slow her tangent a little bit.
"...wow, all this back information and I haven't even gotten to the weird stuff. Well, anyways, one day, really close to the deadline, an hourglass showed up at my doorstep, sand still slowly emptying into the bottom chamber. That was my cue that the end would be near. So then, I took a trip to Seth's private tropical island to meet my fate. I showed up at just the right time and was able to write a quick note to send into the future, telling whoever to grab my body from the past so there wouldn't be so much gross decay to deal with. After sending that off... he showed up. ➜"
She takes a deep breath, noticeably a bit more stressed than usual. Had she been avoiding this part of the story with the long unnecessary tangents everywhere?
"His eyes... glared bright red... I could recognize that look immediately. I, I think I had a flashback to another timeline where he had that same exact look. Panicking, I tried to escape. Obviously I couldn't. Not only was I destined to meet my end, but he also disabled any others from using time powers to do anything against him. I was trapped in a situation I couldn't possibly escape, and it was al my fault. He struck without mercy nor hesitation... and soon, I was dead.
That isn't where the story ends though, obviously. ➜"
Another deep breath. The last sentence's matter-of-factness being used to cushion the stress of having to recall her last moments again.

Ready to tell the second half of the story, Niki resumed where she had left off a minute before.
"...After what felt like forever, I found myself upon the shore of a dark and misty swampland. There was a tower in the distance, resonating strongly with the multiplied presence of a familiar time player. I took hold of my situation, and realized I was in fact dead and had landed in the underworld. Almost as if on cue, a boat led by a glowing red light emerged from the fog. Four souls made their way to the dock, one of them resembling the grim reaper himself. Instinctively fearing what he or the others would do to me now that I was there in that domain, I hid behind a tree, and coincidentally behind where the textbox would be displayed in the game that depicted this event.
A fifth appeared upon the dock in a red flash. His eyes were the only ones that weren't devoid of life. From there, they repeated nearly the same exact things the had when I had first tracked their adventure with the viewport to build the game's content from. Just as they were about to make their way to the tower, I ran out of sight and hid somewhere else until they entered the tower. With that issue dodged, I had time to think. Soon that set of Seths would be on their way to koholint island to face the grand nightmare. They wouldn't have too much trouble against it, striking against it with full fury and boomerangs flying everywhere. In the meantime, I had nothing but time. So I decided to do some exploring. Once the coast was clear, I entered the tower and almost immediately, they kicked me out for trespassing. Apparently only those built from a Seth template are allowed in the tower. I decided to do something incredibly dumb and travel back in time as far as I could go. Of course, time is kinda hard to measure in the underworld, so I went by the measurement of how many Seths were down there at a specific moment. I went back to before they showed up. ➜
For only a single moment, the place was empty. Through the power of what I thought the place should look like, the setting changed to the one I thought it would look like later and had already visited. The tower was hazy and barely even defined. I realized that I had accidentally given myself the responsibility of becoming the architect of the tower and the surrounding islands. ➜
I did what I had been tasked with pretty well, using the extent of my imagination to create the locations that the Seths would eventually populate for the rest of their days. most of what I did was lay down the base for how the places would connect and left the details to any future visitors to define later. That way I wouldn't have to go into too much detail and get it wrong. ➜"
"At some point, I got to the skaian magicant, and also, the extended magicant. The extended magicant never really showed up during the course of the adventure, but I knew it was at least sort of there. I used that place as my base of operations and as a place to rest while trying to recharge from constantly building up the framework for an imaginary world. Figmentary versions of those that would appear later populated this room, each with different functions similar to their rpg maker counterparts. It was there that I thought I found my brother. Unfortunately, it was just another figment of my weary imagination. Using a teleporting orb, and a quick code change with the code console in that room to prevent cheater detection, I used it to try and search for Jake. ➜
I arrived in a star-studded expanse in the depths of space. I could walk forwards, but there was barely any sort of visible ground, just stars an assumed millions of miles away, and a faint pathway made of stardust. I went forwards for quite a while, even when it seemed the scenery had repeated itself. Eventually, I found what I was looking for... There he was, standing motionless in place, one eye blank... I tried to approach him, reach out to him, but... he vanished. ➜"
Niki pauses here, it looks like one of her eyes might be watering behind her glasses.
"...I never saw my brother ever again. ➜"
She takes a deep breath, lifts her glasses a little, and wipes her tears. Niki resumes her tale.
"I returned to the towers base using the orb, but I couldn't forget what I had just seen. I took a ride in the boat, all alone. The past is such a quiet place... ➜
I arrived at null island, a generic looking dead island like the rest of them. I dropped into the hole at the top of the hill, and landed in a dark cave. I wandered endlessly in this dark cave, partially for architectural reasons, and partially to try and focus on something else other than my brother. I can only guess what really happened to him. Maybe I'm not even sure if I even want to know. ➜
Eventually, I got to the place where Nil's throne room would be. From there, I figured my work down here was done. But, I was still dead. Nobody had revived me yet. ➜
At some point, I boated back to the tower and up to the elevator room. I jumped back in time to when Thoren appeared and I walked into the elevator. With most of them occupied with him causing chaos with his sudden post-mortem meltdown, I was free to take the elevator up to koholint island and place the important note nearby. With that done, I decided to wander koholint for a while, eventually retiring to the meteor, where I could spend some time with siren before the upcoming court date and my eventual revival. ➜
When that day came, and I returned back to the land of the living, I had found out something had happened over here. While I was off worldbuilding in the underworld, Chronos was using the skaianet exile console program on my glasses to do something similar, through the power of suggestion. He had crafted an entire sessionbound race and had led them with his own twisted ideas for how he wanted their world to work. I've been studying their culture over the past few days with the viewport program, and there's plans to visit their planet soon, though when exactly and who's driving I'm not sure yet. ➜
And here we are now. ➜"
