Huh...? This is a new 8u88le... A... jail cell?
Wait... Am I...? ...A human?
Wait, I hear someone.Amy: A what????: I bet the guards give you "special" treatment before the end. Oh, that's right. You're going to die in here, Imperial! You're going to die!Amy: Wh-what? 8ut... I didn't do anything wrong.???: Imperial criminal scum like you give the Empire a bad name, you see. You're an embarassment. Best if you just... disappeared.Amy: I don't understand...Yeah, those are definitely footsteps... May8e this is it. I'm a8out to 8e executed for crimes I didn't commit, in a form I don't understand, in a 8u88le far away from home.

???: My sons... they're dead, aren't they????: We don't know that, sire.???: No, they're dead. I know it.???: My job right now is to get you to safety.Wait, I'm not supposed to 8e here! It's all a mistake!Amy: Please let me out! I didn't do anything!???: Yeah, and neither has anyone else in here.Amy: No, I don't know where I am...The man growls, and I realize how hopeless this is. I'm just some prisoner, why should they give me special treatment????: Stand back, prisoner. We won't hesitate to kill you if you get in our way.I nod vigorously and stand with my 8ack against the wall... and as I do so, I realize how quickly I'm managing to adapt to this 8ody. As the man's voice comes again, however, my mind goes 8ack to the matter at hand.I nod, just happy to 8e alive. 8ut then another voice comes from 8ehind.???: You... I've seen you...An aging man in royal purple ro8es steps out from 8ehind the soldiers, examining me closely.

???: You are the one from my dreams...Amy: Dreams...????: Then the stars were right, and this is the day. Gods give me strength.Amy: I don't understand what's going on here!???: Assassins attacked my sons, and I'm next. My Blades are leading me out of the city along a secret escape route. By chance, the entrance to that escape route leads through your cell.Taking a deep 8reath, I ask a question I know I'm going to regret.Amy: Who are you?He raises an eye8row, and his guards shift uncomforta8ly. But then he 8egins to speak, only slightly annoyed 8y my ignorance.???: I am your emperor, Uriel Septim. By the grace of the Gods, I serve Tamriel as her ruler. That's a lot of words I don't know, 8ut I nod and go along with it.Uriel: You are a citizen of Tamriel, and you, too, shall serve her in your own way. Perhaps the Gods have placed you here so that we may meet.He looks me up and down, lingering on my shackles.Uriel: As for what you have done... it does not matter. That is not what you will be remembered for.Amy: S-so... what should I do?Uriel: You will find your own path. Take care... there will be blood and death before the end.

One of his guards interrupts our conversation as he fiddles with something on the cell wall.A hidden passage opens up, and Uriel and his guards go through. Seeing no other option, I follow. There's a lot going on here, and I aim to figure it all out.

Who are those? It seems like they're going after the Emperor. I'm doing what I can with my fists, 8ut the heavily armed soldiers are making a lot more of an impact. As the 8attle ends, I realize one of them fell. I really hope these assassins aren't going to attack again, because I don't think I'll last another fight.Amy: 8ut what am I supposed to do????: Not our problem.Uriel: You may take Captain Renault's equipment. She won't be needing it.???: But, sire...Uriel: Need I remind you, I am your Emperor.???: ...As you command.I remove as much of her equipment as I can stand to and put it on. There were some other things I could and pro8a8ly should have taken, but I didn't want to linger.

Just as I finish putting on the armor, a couple of giant rats come around a corner and attack me. I dispatch them quickly and carefully step over their 8odies to see where they came from....Guess that's it.I continue through the caverns, dispatching a few more giant rats, when I find a skeleton with some weapons and armor nearby. There isn't a lot there that's particularly useful to me, 8ut I do find a shield made out of leather and a helmet, which I quickly put on.What's this thing?Ewww.

Oh God, what's this thing?...That's definitely a zombie I just killed.
......A 8it further in, I find another skeleton with stuff next to it. He has an iron-reinforced shield - more than a little rusty, 8ut 8etter than the flimsy leather thing I have now. I trade them out.

I hear some scra88ling up ahead and duck 8ehind a pillar. It's some kind of go8lin, just like the one I... found earlier.
I sneak up behind it and stab it in the 8ack. I feel pretty impressed at my skill in both stealth and swordsmanship.

I take out a few more go8lins as I proceed. One of them used some sort of magic to defend itself, 8ut it still didn't give me too much trou8le. I'm really proud of my quick thinking pushing over those logs, in any case.

Sure enough, it's the Emperor and his 8odyguards from earlier. I stay 8ack while they deal with more of the ro8ed assassins, then approach. I probably should have sheathed my sword. Amy: Wait, no! I promise I'm not trying to help those guys!Guard: Yeah, I'll bet. Give me one good reason I should-Uriel: No. She is not one of them. The guard growls, but he sheathes his sword anyway. Guard: As you wish, sire.

Uriel: How can I explain?Amy: Umm...Uriel: Listen. You know the Nine? How They guide our fates with an invisible hand?Amy: Uh, not really. He raises an eyebrow. I think I may have just fucked up. Uriel: Akatosh, Arkay, Dibella, Julianos, Kynareth, Mara, Stendarr, Zenithar, and Talos. The Aedra, who guide and protect us.Amy: Oh. Uh... sure.He clears his throat before continuing. Uriel: I've served the Nine all my days, and I chart my course by the cycles of the heavens. The skies are marked with numberless sparks, each a fire, and every one a sign. I know these signs well, and I wonder... which sign marked your birth? He's looking at me expectantly, and I realize how out of water I really am. Amy: I... never really 8othered to find out. I never felt the need.Uriel: ...I see. May I perform a reading?Amy: Um... sure, I guess. He gra8s my palms and closes his eyes. My palms tingle with some sort of magical energy. It's extremely uncomfortable. Uriel: Ah, the sign of the Warrior. The stars have granted you a boon in your combat abilities.Amy: Oh. ...Cool.Uriel: The signs I read show the end of my path. My death, a necessary end, will come when it will come.Amy: What a8out me?Uriel: Your stars are not mine. Today the Warrior shall prove a stalwart companion when fortune fades.Amy: Can you see my fate, too?Uriel: My dreams grant me no opinions of success. Their compass ventures not beyond the doors of death. But in your face, I behold the sun's companion. The dawn of Akatosh's bright glory may banish the coming darkness. With such hope, and with the promise of your aid, my heart must be satisfied.Amy: ...Thank you. 8ut... aren't you afraid to die?Uriel: No trophies of my triumphs precede me. But I have lived well, and my ghost shall rest easy. Men are but flesh and blood. They know their doom, but not the hour. In this I am blessed to see the hour of my death... to face my apportioned fate, then fall.Amy: ...I see. 8ut we pro8a8ly shouldn't stay in one place much longer - where are we going?Uriel: I go to my grave. A tongue shriller than all the music calls me. You shall follow me yet for a while, then we must part.Amy: ...One of the guards interrupts. He then whispers something in my ear. Guard: Forgive him, he's a bit... dramatic right now.
We press on.

We proceed down a side passageway, 8ut it just leads to an empty room. From 8ehind us, we hear the sounds of more assassins entering. Guard: It's a dead end. What's your call, sir?Guard: They're behind us! Wait here, sire.I turn to look at Uriel - and, more importantly, the surrounding walls, watching carefully for assassins. 8ut it's not long 8efore he speaks up. He hands me the amulet he had been wearing around his neck - a 8eautifully cut ru8y, 8ordered with ornate gold and smaller gemstones. Amy: Listen... if you're a8out to die, I feel like there's something I need to tell... well, some8ody.Uriel: Speak quickly. I am not long for this world.Amy: See... I'm not actually from this world, whatever it is.Uriel: ...Amy: See, right now, in my home world, I'm asleep. I've 8een asleep for a long time now.Uriel: ...Go on.Amy: I've 8een passing from world to world within my dreams. It was only now that I woke up in that prison where you found me.Uriel: ...I see.Amy: ...What should I do?Uriel: If you were truly brought into this world, now of all times, then it means that fate has most definitely brought you here. Listen - the fate of this world rests in your hands. Take the Amulet. Give it to Jauffre. He alone knows where to find my last son.
