And that’s when the local Ranger shows up. The woman pats the PICHU at her side, looking over the chaotic scene of swarming COMBEE and terrified Ace Trainers.
“What in ARCEUS’ name happened here?” She asks, breaking out her capture styler to calm down the swarming Pokemon with a couple close lassos.

Right outside the pokemon center, a ring of mushrooms appears.
Two figures emerge from it, HAZEL and Nick.
It appears only minimal time has passed since they had departed.
Its still the summer of 2021 here, maybe just a few days after the day-class was completed.
"...Well, looks like we're here now." Nick briefly wonders about the chaos they caused back home.
"So uh, what should we do first?"

Yeap it was that day of the year again, and while the group might have been the middle of combat that didn't mean that they were unreachable to the powers of magic. there wasn't anything like a flash of light or anything flashy. Just one moment, no cupcake and then in the blink of an eye in a nearby safe spot there it would be. With the cupcakes would be some pokecakes, little cakes made for the pokemon that the trainers whom he knew, so they could also have a little treat.

Nick suddenly has a cupcake. Fortunately they remember this sort of thing from last year.
"ohey, Coleman sent us cupcakes for his birthday!" Nick smiles, seeing this as a sign that their friends back in the Gene universe live on beyond the retcon.
"Hmm... I wonder if we should try contacting them...? I think I still have my communicator brick."
Nick takes a bite of their cupcake.

Nick grimaces uneasily. They decide to try and log in to pestercord on their phone.
However, they hit a snag.
"...oh come on, my chumhandle is password protected?! and it doesn't even use my usual password??" They grumble annoyedly.
"...darn it, now I need to come up with a new handle. Got any ideas?"

"nah, those sound too generic."
Nick's previous handle had been lavenderSiren. Years before, they had used shinyJiggly, but that was taken by their post-reset counterpart. Both handles however held the same meaning to them.
Should they keep the same theme of shiny jigglypuff?
what is it that defines them now?
what do they want to be known and described as upon first impression?
Is it their journey? their separation? their artistry? their seemingly estranged origins?
...if their previous handle reflected their interest in pokemon, their new one should reflect their sburban origins.
They come up with something.

Nick shows up to the memo for a rude awakening. Not only have they been replaced, but there's someone behind all of this.
Dylan, the Page of Void.
All of a sudden, Nick looks up to the sky in rage, screaming profanities to the heavens!
"FUCK YOU DYLAN! FUCK YOU, YOUR SHITTY BULLSHIT COMPANY, AND EVERYTHING YOU STAND FOR! FUCK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU COMPLETE ASSWIPE!!!!"
Meanwhile, a number of onlookers are just sorta staring, a mother covers her child's ears, giving Nick a dirty look.
Nick doesn't even care. They're crying at this point.

HAZEL gives Nick a hug. "Sorry, they're having a moment. You know how new trainers can get." She offers as an explanation to the crowd.

The crowd seems to hesitantly accept this. it helps that the terrible man in question has such a seemingly ordinary name. You could probably find like, at least three dylans in the crossroad city phone directory. The bystanders disperse, back to their business.
Nick hugs Hazel, still sobbing. It's a lot to take in, knowing that not only were they manipulated, but that they were replaced. Granted, they wouldn't have been replaced if they stayed, but it's possible they would have simply experienced ego death otherwise.
And it's all because of Dylan, that double crossing void player. None of this would have happened if he hadn't butted in...
A moment passes.
"...thank you HAZEL. I'm... still upset, but I suppose there's more important things than screaming."
Nick checks the memo again. another new member, someone with the chuminitials SF that had appeared on the isle of Chronos, and Charles mentioning something about a mission to the grid of the session that ended in personal tragedy. Nick has a feeling that they aren't exactly connected to the affairs of the dungeon crashers anymore, aside from what sense of bitter contempt they still hold against Dylan.
They ask for a direction and get it from the other version of HAZEL, who has never went back with them to the pinto region.
"...the missing ditto starters... We need to find them, but where to look..."
