"heh, I'm glad about that." Clyde chuckles, looking down at Echo.
Meanwhile, someone new enters the doors. It's N. Though he mirrors their Unovan counterpart, This version of N has a certain korosian sensibility.
"So this is the place. Seems well built for conflicts between Truth and Ideals..." N enters the courtroom.
Clyde waves at their fellow temporic. "Howdy partner! You're the snake wrangler, right?"
"Snake whisperer, not a wrangler." N adjusts their hat. "That being said, there will be no use of korosian snakes in this duel. All snakes from our world are endangered in this post-reckoning age and it would be unethical to put such a limited pool of creatures in a position of pressure to find one willing to risk health against a duelist."
"well uh, what about snakes from 'round here?" Clyde asks N.
"Any snakes chosen would have to be specially trained for debate duels, provide proper consent, and be of good health."

"So it boils down to 'are there suitable snakes?', your answer leads to: 'probably not.' which leads to: 'what do we do about it?'" Echo tries to parse the situation.

N glances pensively. "That seems to be the case. personally, I've been lobbying to end the barbaric practice since the beginning of the Emit administration. Personally I don't see how fighting a snake would prove anyone's point in anything but might."
Clyde shrugs. "yeah, I'm not too attached to the custom either. I don't even think it's been invoked in a professional setting since things started over anyways. It's more just some weird thing that has bn taken off the books yet."

"Traditionally in British and American courts, the judge has a lot of control. Alternian courtroom rules means a tyranny can effectively do anything it wanted, including eating people it deemed annoying. What about Korosian courtroom procedure?" Echo asks the two. "I need to see what my limits are, such as, are there ways to prevent a snake fight?" after a brief moment of thought she adds "Is there anything else that either side could invoke similar to the snake fight that I need to be aware of?"

"well, a korosian debate referee has a pretty decent amount of say on what will or won't fly, but that was built on the assumption of a chain of command that they used to be able to rely upon for direction that's been depreciated at this point."
"ugh, don't remind me of the shit the Chosen Ones used to pull with the social power they got from the Voice of Time..." N looks away, clearly reminded of something unpleasant.
soon enough, a stuffy looking prospitian walks in, wearing a pair of halfmoon glasses.
"you must be that legal advisorant fellow, I take it?" Clyde asks.
The legal advisorant nods. she shakes hands with a number of people present.
"we were talking about korosian courtroom procedure. I've heard you know your stuff on the subject."
The legal advisorant nods proudly, hands on hips.
"well, would you mind filling in the judge on how it works?"
The legal advisorant's eyes glisten with autism. she uncaptchas a chalkboard and begins going over korosian courtroom procedure, comparing and contrasting late pre-reckoning practices with the most recent reforms to the protocol. Needless to say, there's been a number of improvements and changes to the previous model.
While it used to be in high profile cases that the referee/judge would base their judgements upon the word of a Chosen One who would (in theory, but often in practice this was omitted) call upon the voice of time, such practices have been replaced with something that doesn't require the blessing of those with high social status that are assumed to be blessed to some degree.
Nowadays, it is assumed that the judge can make most calls, but when contested or at odds can call upon members of the advisory panel for guidance. interestingly enough, they don't necessarily need to follow the advice from panel members, as the advisory panel doesn't exactly have hard power. they do however have assumed soft power built through respect. Bonds of soft power through respect are very important in the context of all types of korosian duels. those who show disrespect tend to get turned against pretty quickly for this reason. as for preventing certain clauses from going into effect, that is well within the judge's power, especially if the advisory panel goes along with it.
N is listening intently to the presentation, while Clyde is only paying attention slightly.

After listening intently, Echo nods. "Not incompatible in spirit with courtroom practices I studied in the past." and "but Alternian courts do run on fear, which means I need to balance both fear and respect." she considers this before explaining. "Not impossible, but definitely going to be a challenge to balance."

"hm, definitely sounds like it." Clyde ponders.
"challenge or not, this case is a test run for multiple civilizations starting over--for both Korous and Neo Alternia." N stands resolute with determination.
"let's just hope we get it right..."
Legal Advisorant nods in agreement.
