TOPIC: Trainersim thread
Heya, it's me, Aeons. I figured it would be a good idea to make a thread for this project. I'm basically making what amounts to a pokemon game set largely in the Greater Charcherry Area. Since pokemon essentials has the engine well built with excellent dev tools, that part is covered. however, I do still have a lot of work ahead of me.
the main thing I need to work on is tileset work and cartography (the maps). putting the old CAD program in read only mode seems to be a viable option for helping with redoing the maps into a 2d format, and thankfully I do have a collection of personal tilesets on hand, but there will need to be a lot of custom work too.
Something Is like to ask from y'all are of the following.
- how would you like to be depicted in the game?
if you have an official job, you'll likely end up in that location to accommodate for gameplay, but I'd like to hear what sorta outfit, what sorta lines, and what sorta team you want to be seen with. Keep it within the realm of reason.
- encounter table data.
what are the level ranges in certain grass patches? which pokemon show up in which times in which places? These questions in particular will likely be best answered by researchers such as Professor Branch, but if you have some tips you've submitted to the pokedex network, I'd like to hear about it here.
- background music recommendations
with a number of places to visit, there's going to be a number of music tracks to be heard. so far, I've been pulling from the "Hoenn Week Never Ends" album, as well as some occasionally fitting Homestuck music and the possibility of composing my own. Please try to keep it to things that won't get streamers in trouble, just in case.
- anyone with pixel art skills?
let's face it: I can only draw so fast. however, it would go faster with some help on this front. things such as overworld tiles that haven't been made yet and countless trainer/npc overworld sprites are needed the most. I'm considering using a mother 3 adjacent style for charsets, mostly for the sake of being able to depict various people as short or tall, rather than all the same general size in alterniabound style as was used before.
-opinions on how to handle the player character.
while I have gotten a data import/export system working, it's unfeasible to make absolutely everyone a visibly playable character. so with that in mind, I do believe a player avatar needs to be figured out. do note that it is very possible that our group will eventually meet the real version of this character down the line if they are particularly defined, so keep that in mind.
Do note that this project will take months, if not years, and will likely be released in phases as time goes on.
