Nick smiles a little, appreciating the support.
"well, it looks like its finally time for me to challenge the gym leader." They mumble something shortly afterwards. "(been keeping 'em waiting long enough, after all.)"

"Before you leave, I want you to have this." Professor Kyle hands the three trainers some things. Some exp candy, a couple basic revives, and a choice band.
"Thank you so much for helping, even if it ended up being impossible."
"We do what we can." Nick nods and makes sure the items are distributed.
And with that, they head out the door together.

Eventually, Nick arrives in front of the gym. At this point the sun is already down.  "welp, here goes nothing."They soon enter the building, leaving the rest of the party behind for now.
 Nick enters the gym. Its dark. A detail that was present in the original story. They press on into the maze of trees. They are soon spotted by a camper, blended in with the greenery! Fortunately however, its an easy battle. Nick continues onward. This one is slightly more challenging, but only marginally. After bumping their way through the woods, they eventually arrive upon the gym leader. Shrouder. It turns out to be more than their team can handle. The Nuzleaf was easily subdued by leech life, but the murkrow kept hitting hard with Assurance. It didn't take long for Nick's entire team to be wiped.
Nick walks out of the gym and looks over at Diamond and HAZEL, eyes not quite meeting theirs out of embarrassment and shame. "...I lost. I gotta go heal up my pokemon." |

HAZEL smiles softly.
"Hey, it's alright. Gym Leaders are tough. Did you get any good intel on their team?"

"Yeah. its all dark types. Nuzleaf and Murkrow. The exact type matchup needed to take my team down. most of my pokemon could barely even last a moment against murkrow."
Nick sighs.
"But I thought I trained them more than that..."

"Hmm. If it's a MURKROW, we could try and see if we can get TM147 Wild Charge for your LARVESTA. That's an electric type move and should take care of that."

"That might work, if we can find it around here. the thing is though, that murkrow's speed is ridiculous. And my team just doesn't have the bulk to handle more than a slap or two. Somehow even Pory lasts longer than my heavy hitters against murkrow!"

"sounds like you might need to train your Porygon more. Those can learn some electric type attacks too." Diamond keeps their usual cool collected demeanor.

"hm.. that sounds a lot easier to find a TM for, that's for sure. We should get going to the pokemon center though."
And with that Nick begins the grueling walk across town to the pokemon center.
"ugh... why does this city only have one pokemon center and why is it on the opposite side of the city from the freaking gym??? You'd think a place as big as this would have more than one but nooooo..."
They continue hoofing it along the sidewalk, on the way to the bridge.

"fuck if I know, I'm not a city planner." Diamond walks alongside at a quick pace.
They feel something in the air, though perhaps something beyond air. Its hard to tell what it is though.

"huh, never thought about it that way..." Nick ponders that.
After a while of walking under streetlight, the party eventually makes it across town to the pokemon center.
Nick walks up to the front desk with a sigh. they place three pokeballs there. thankfully the edges of the front desk are designed with a slight lip so pokeballs don't roll off of it so easily.
"team got wiped in a gym battle."
Nurse joy nods and puts Nick's pokeballs in the healing machine.
"First time against Shrouder?"
"pretty much, yeah. didn't have a good type matchup at all."
"you should try catching some more team members if you have the resources for more."
Nurse joy returns the pokeballs, pokemon inside healed to full health.
"I might consider that tomorrow, it's getting late. Thank you, by the way."
"no problem. looking forward to seeing you again." Joy does a curtsy bow.
Nick turns to face the others.
"so, where should we go next?"
