All hell broke loose.
From a crack in the sky, thousands upon thousands of furbies flew out, as if a swarm of locusts. the sky was blotted out a pitch black, cast under a veil of darkness.
In the square, townsfolk were being attacked mercilessly.
The cage had been emptied, only bloodstains and void remained.
Many sought refuge in the bar, but even the most secure room in the entire building was no match for the unstoppable fiends.
Was God truly dead?
Meanwhile, back at the treehouse, Rise continued to fight off hordes of furbies with their sister. They fought valiantly side by side, but when Brae tried to open up a space rift to escape, she was greeted by a steady stream of bloodthirsty furbies from in between the tattered seams of timespace fabric.
She died. Heroic.
Distraught by the death of their sister, Rise did the only thing they could do:
They pledged to prevent this tragedy from ever happening.
Rise declared the timeline doomed.
But before they would abandon this timeline, they had to find answers.
Why did this happen?
Rise fought their way to the town. A mile of strife and peril.
Somehow, they managed to arrive at Nick's house, running at top speed. But even that wasn't enough to avoid getting bitten by the wretched birds of prey. A viscous venom seeped into their bloodstream.
A poison with no antidote.
The clock was ticking.
Rise broke into Nick's house, not even stopping to knock.
There was no time for finesse.
They found Nick hiding in a cardboard fort in their project room, crying. It seemed despite their lack of self preservation earlier, they couldn't seem to bring themself to face the slaughter outside their window.
"Hey Nick. Timeline is doomed. I need to go back and prevent this shit from happening,"
Rise said in a plain but serious manner.
Despite what sort of despair they should have had upon that revelation, it seemed that Nick already knew. They wiped their own tears.
"...I had a feeling."
"I need you to use your light bullshit to figure out what needs to be changed."
Nick thinks for a moment.
"...Light won't be necessary. I think I know when this all started."
At this point, Nick explained the incident, to the best of their knowledge. Perhaps even beyond their knowledge. But not quite at the point where the furbies would pursue them for cognitohazard crimes.
"...so that's what you'll have to do. Only then will you successfully save our godforsaken world."
Rise nodded, knowing their mission.
"Before you go, I got something you can wear in the alpha timeline."
Nick climbed out of the box fort and grabbed the closest accessory they could find.
A feather boa scarf.
"This way they won't mistake you for the alpha."
Rise accepted the scarf and tied it around their neck.
A symbolic noose for the crime of mutiny against their timeline.
"Thank you Nick. You will be remembered. Shall we meet again at the End Of Time."
Nick wordlessly watched as the Heir of Time invoked a spell circle and disappeared in a flash of red light.
Seconds later, the furbies broke through the window and surrounded them. Nick stood there without even struggle as the furbies circled like a storm on all sides.
"We shall meet again..."
Nick closed their tear-stricken eyes, and all went dark.
